Marriage/Relationship Counseling

Relationship Counseling

It goes without saying - marriage takes work.  Between the busyness of work, kids, home-life, financial issues or adjustment challenges associated with retirement, aging, and health issues, it can be difficult to stay connected to your marital partner. Unintentionally, the stress of life can cause couples to drift apart over time.  It’s all too easy to remain distance as destructive communication has left the heart wounded, or circumstances out of the couple’s control have weighed too heavily on a fragile relationship.

I work with individuals and couples from an attachment lens. Through this therapeutic approach, I help you address and resolve past traumas and attachment wounds that may stem from various parts of the couple’s life. I offer a safe and supportive environment where you can discuss sensitive issues openly and honestly.

Relationship Counseling

Relationship counseling addresses the challenges that exist with interpersonal relationships that are not romantic. These relationships can include family, friends, acquaintances, and professional relationships. Relationship counseling is beneficial for any two people, or group of people who are experiencing communication problems, boundary issues, differing expectations, unresolved conflict, conflicting personalities, different values and beliefs, and inequality within the relationship.  Even when people get along well, stress and daily life can cause conflicts that seem difficult or impossible to resolve.

Relationship counseling can be an effective way to learn healthy ways to manage differences, work through lingering issues and restore harmony. Transform your relationships from a source of stress to a source of strength.

When to consider Marriage Counseling:

If you and your partner are struggling with any of the following:

  • Unresolved relationship problems have resulted in a lack of physical and emotional intimacy.
  • Almost all communication ends in an argument and creates more distance between you and your partner.
  • Most arguments are repeated versions of the same fight over and over.
  • You or your partner view the other as the one responsible for most of the marital problems.
  • Philosophical differences are handled in ways that makes the marriage worse.
  • Chronic financial stress has led to a general dissatisfaction and resentment, making it difficult to remain hopeful that things can change.
  • Acts of infidelity has left a trail of devastation and deep wounds.

In Relationship Counseling, you will experience the following:

  • a safe space which allows you to discuss long-standing issues that have caused you to question the foundation of your relationship.
  • gain effective communication skills that help you avoid getting trapped in the negative cycle that derails the very dialogue needed to address relationship issues.
  • address ineffective relationship dynamics that are due to poor boundaries, power imbalances, control and manipulation, and trust issues.
  • develop conflict resolution skills that will allow you to resolve relationship roadblocks and help to bridge the gap between your differences, gain new insights, and tackle problems as a team.
  • learn how to be vulnerable, rather than bottling up your emotions for fear of being rejected and re-wounded.
  • receive feedback from a professional, impartial and unbiased therapist.
