Anxiety is more than an occasional feeling of worry or fretfulness. Worry tends to take up resides in the mind, while anxiety manifest in the mind and body. Anxiety can be pervasive, making it difficult for you to focus, reframe from overthinking, relax, sleep well, and enjoy life. I'd like to partner with you in developing a plan to identify the root causes, address the triggers, and teach coping techniques to better manage anxiety so that you feel more grounded and in control of your mind and body. If you're thinking of getting help, go ahead. Your quality of life is worth it!
While it is normal to have a down day here and there, sitting with persistent sadness is unhealthy and could possibly lead to depression. There are several things that can contribute to the onset of depression, such as: ongoing stress, poor mood regulation, and genetic factors, just to name a few. There is no one-size fits all when it comes to depression. It is a subtle, yet complex, condition that can leave one feeling empty, isolated, hopeless and without the strength to move forward. Depression also cause people to experience feelings of uncertainty, unworthiness, and loneliness. If, in your best attempts to shake off the blues, you still feel disconnected from everything and everyone as if a dark shadow has been casted over every aspect of your life, there is help for you, and you can get through this.
Whether physical or emotional, some life experiences are traumatic to the degree that they threaten your sense of safety and well-being. Examples of trauma are the loss of a loved one, childhood abandonment or neglect, auto accidents, physical abuse, sexual assault, or military combat, just to name a few. Healing from trauma is possible as you learn to see yourself as a survivor, redefine your relationship with yourself, and gain a deeper appreciation for life.
"You are not the darkness that you endured. You are the light that refused to surrender."- John Mark
For deep healing, it's essential to take every part of you into consideration. You are is made up of our BODY, MIND, and SPIRIT. Anything that affects one of these areas, affects the others. Christian counseling is unique in its ability to address the WHOLE person. By approaching counseling holistically, and incorporating your Christian faith with evidence-based clinical practices, you and I are able to see how all the parts of your life are interconnected. Working from a Christ-centered perspective provides the opportunity to integrate scripture, prayer, and seek God's wisdom in resolving life's challenges.
While the tenets of my Christian faith (love, joy, peace, grace, forgiveness, kindness and compassion) are common threads that permeate my therapeutic approach to counseling, I do not impose my ideologies on you. I will follow your lead to the extent that you are comfortable and want to incorporate your faith. The therapeutic experience is tailored to meet your needs, goals, and spiritual values. Faith is a necessary step in the wake of a storm and life's uncertainty, so your individual spiritual journey is valued and welcomed in the counseling session.
